Why am I being charged U.S. sales tax now? Is it because of tariffs? And how does this apply to a Finnish company?Updated 17 days ago
Some of our returning customers are asking e.g.
- Why do I need now pay the sales tax when in the past I did not have to?
- Is this somehow related to the latest news about tariffs?
- I know VIBAe is a Finnish company - why do you collect the sales tax?
We recently started collecting sales tax in the US because we've reached what's called economic nexus. That means we’ve had enough sales in certain states that we're legally required to collect sales tax—even though we’re based in Finland and don’t have a physical presence in the US.
This isn’t related to tariffs or any political changes. It’s based on state-level tax laws that apply to all online businesses, regardless of where they're located, once they hit a certain level of sales in the US.
We’re simply following the rules to stay compliant—thank you for your understanding and continued support!
